Submission 3.2: Critical Reflection
3.2.1: At the start of this course, I set objectives to improve on my writing ability and develop confidence in public speaking. Writing is an essential skill for creating precise and professional documents, and I wanted to overcome my struggles with grammar and effectively translate my thoughts into words. Upon reflecting on my progress, I have made significant improvements in structuring my writing more clearly, but I recognise that improving my grammar and clarity remains an ongoing effort as there’s always room for improvement. Engaging in writing assignments on my blog and receiving feedback from professor and peers have helped me become more aware of my mistakes and provided me with strategies on how I can enhance my writing. In the up and coming age of gAI, I have learnt to maximise the technology around us using softwares like ChatGPT and CoPilot to aid in my writing. Additionally, I aimed to build confidence in public speaking and presenting, enhancing my ability to address audiences effectively. However, through practice and structured exercises such as class discussions and presentations, I have noticed an increase in my confidence throughout this module. I have learned to organise my thoughts before speaking and to use body language and tone to engage listeners. To continue improving, I plan to continue practising structured writing regularly through blogs and reports, seeking feedback to refine my writing style. Furthermore, I will actively participate in public speaking opportunities such as group discussions and presentations to further build on my confidence and fluency in communication.
3.2.2: My research project focused on proposing solutions for the pitch, which required me to develop a strong problem-solving mindset and effectively communicate my ideas. One of the biggest challenges I faced was ensuring that my proposed solutions were both innovative and feasible. Initially, I struggled with articulating my ideas concisely and persuasively, but through feedback and multiple revisions, I learned to refine my arguments and present them more clearly. Throughout this process, I also gained valuable insights into how to structure a compelling pitch. I realised that beyond having well-researched solutions, it was crucial to engage the audience and convey confidence in my proposal. I learned to use storytelling techniques, visual aids, and clear language to make my pitch more persuasive. This experience has reinforced the importance of preparation and adaptability in presenting complex ideas effectively. Additionally, working on this project provided valuable lessons in teamwork. Collaborating with peers meant that I had to consider different perspectives and balance multiple ideas to create a well-rounded proposal. I discovered that open communication and constructive feedback were essential for refining our solutions and ensuring that our pitch was compelling. This experience has changed my perspective on learning, showing me that problem-solving is most effective when approached collaboratively. From this project, my takeaway is learning the importance of structured thinking and persuasive communication. Moving forward, I will continue to practice my pitching skills, seek feedback, and refine my ability to present solutions in a compelling and confident manner. Additionally, I plan to further develop my teamwork skills by fostering open discussions and actively incorporating diverse viewpoints in future projects.
