Second Submission Readers Response

The construction industry has long been plagued by inefficiencies, costly errors, and communication gaps between project stakeholders. However, the advent of advanced augmented reality (AR) technology is ushering in a new era of precision and collaboration. At the forefront of this transformation is the XYZ Reality Atom, an innovative AR hardhat system that seamlessly bridges the gap between digital designs and physical construction. Since its launch in 2021, this groundbreaking device has been deployed in major construction projects totaling over £1.5 billion, demonstrating how technology can fundamentally improve traditional building processes (Tuck, 2021; XR Today, 2023). The XYZ Reality Atom's technological sophistication lies in its ability to overlay highly accurate Building Information Modeling (BIM) data directly onto construction sites with millimetre precision. The device integrates a safety-certified hardhat with a high-resolution AR display, spatial tracking sensors, ...

Individual Research Contributions to Group Project

Individual Research on Microsoft Hololens 2 28 Feb 2025 1. Found out that the Hololens 2 uses Bidirectional Interlaced Scanning which displays every other line in each frame instead of non-interlaced scanning which displays all the lines on every refresh frame. (Read through consumers' reviews) 2. Researching more on the Hololens 2 specifications in which it uses 120 Hz interlaced which is equivalent to about 60 Hz non-interlaced. (Used DeepSeek to search for potential issues) 3. Found out the importance of non-interlaced video sources as conceptually the human vision takes snapshots of images. With interlaced videos, there will be times where the human vision puts interlaced images wrongly or even misses a certain line. (Found on the intel website on how interlaced videos work) 4. Came to a conclusion that it is a safety hazard in the field of engineering where any mistakes can cause serious implications based on statistical recordings found on a report. 5. Came up with the ideal ...

UCS1001 Reader Response Final Submission

The XYZ Reality Atom is an advanced augmented reality (AR) device designed specifically catered toward the construction industry, which integrates AR technology to aid in the efficiency and precision in building projects. Launched in 2021, the Atom is essentially a combination of a safety-certified hardhat and augmented reality displays which is then beefed up with its ability to overlay Building Information Modeling (BIM) data directly onto the construction site, allowing engineers and workers to visualise structures in real-time with millimetre accuracy (Tuck, 2021). It’s also equipped with a high-resolution display, spatial tracking capabilities, and also a powerful computing unit that enables real-time processing of complex models. Since its launch, the Atom has been deployed in projects totaling over £1.5 billion, including data centers, pharmaceutical facilities, and airports. Its impact on the construction industry has been recognized with accolades such as the Gold German...

UCS1001 Summary & Personal Thesis Draft 1

Summary The XYZ Reality headset was custom-built for the construction industry and intended to help businesses achieve greater levels of productivity, performance, and collaboration (Carter, 2023). According to XYZ Reality’s website (2023), the XYZ Reality Atom augmented reality (AR) goggles are an advanced tool designed to enhance precision, efficiency, and safety in the construction industry. They feature millimetre-accurate 3D model overlays, enabling users to visualise and align BIM designs directly on-site, reducing errors and ensuring projects stay true to specifications. Integrated with Autodesk BIM 360, the goggles allow seamless management of design models, issue tracking, and real-time collaboration among teams (AEC Magazine, 2023). A high-resolution AR display offers a wide field of view for clear and detailed visualisations, while the safety-certified helmet ensures compliance with construction safety standards (Red Dot, 2023). The device also includes offline functio...

UCS1001 Research Pathway

Research Pathway Partnered with: Aravindhak Reasons why we chose the topic on Augmented Reality (AR) Goggles in the field of engineering: 1. Enhanced Design Visualisation - AR goggles allow engineers to visualise 3D models of structures directly on-site, enabling better understanding of how designs will integrate into the physical environment. 2. Improve Construction Planning - Workers can see construction plans directly overlaid on the site, reducing reliance on paper blueprints and minimising errors in interpretation. 3. Error Detection & Quality Control - AR can identify conflicts between different systems (e.g., plumbing, electrical, and structural elements) before or during construction, reducing costly rework. 4. Safety Enhancement - AR can highlight potential safety hazards on-site, such as unstable ground, overhead risks, or restricted areas. 5. Educational and Training - AR can provide civil engineering students and professionals with hands-on learning experiences, such as...
